Patient in Mexico Exhibits “Zombie-like” Symptoms, Murders 4…
Arturo, Mexico (CNR) - A 39-yr old farmer from a remote Mexican shanytown has been detained and is in isolation after killing 4 people with a hunting knife.
The farmer, Arnoldo Ramirez, had been considered a loving father of 5 and an integral part of his small, poor but close-knit community. Several weeks ago he had developed a fever and fell ill, ending up confined to his bed for over 14 days. Though none of the villagers knew what was causing his illness, what looked like a mosquito-bite on his arm soon began to swell and redden.
Because the villagers are skeptical of doctors and modern medicine, the infection grew worse until Ramirez became delirious and hysterical, yelling and experiencing vivid hallucinations.
When he finally fell quiet after several days of torment, the local medicine man declared him and dead and his family began preparing for a funeral. However, the night before he was to be buried, Ramirez appeared to “wake up” and began breathing again. The community treated the recovery like a miracle and gathered in his home to celebrate. That is when Arnoldo sat up from his bed, stood and then grabbed for a hunting knife.
His wife tried speaking with him and embrace Arnoldo, but he stabbed her through the stomach, killing her. He then turned the knife on a neighbor that attempted to grab the knife from him. Ramirez apparently swung his knife at the neighbor, slitting his throat across. The villagers then began to panic and flee but two more, including one of his children, were killed in the attack.
But the reason that Arnoldo Ramirez has since been nicknamed “Zombie-Man” is because when authorities found him later that night in his home, he had been eating the flesh of his victims.
Police quickly apprehended him and are holding him at a hospital in Tenancingo, Mexico where he is being detained and treated for what doctor’s believe is a rare blood-transmitted disease called hypercardiostrophe that temporarily stops the heart, cutting off oxygen to the brain.
“Usually when a man is infected with [this disease], the brain is completely destroyed leaving the victim catatonic,” said Doctor Presario, director of disease control at Tenancingo Medical Center, “But for some reason his brain wasn’t entirely destroyed, leaving us to believe he simply went mad.”
Because this appears to be an advanced case of the disease, the Mexican government has since quarantined the small village and are awaiting further developments as to what transmitted the disease.
