PETA while having good intentions is too extreme. It's just common sense not to hold a poisonous snake. The snake's head may have been in her hand and may have been able to twist enough to bite her. While I don't work in a zoo I but the rep is wrong by calling them 'monsters' . to my knowledge no animal has ever acted out right like a monster without being provoked by us (habitat destruction).
