“Unidentified Flying Object” positioned over Manhattan’s Washington Heights, “out of our jurisdiction” says NYPD.
New York, NY (NYV) - Several thousand residents, located in Manhattan’s Washington Heights, have called in to local police or public services reporting what they are describing as a “UFO,” technically an unidentified flying object.
The object appears to be circular and saucer-like, with several bursts of light being emmitted from the object every several minutes. The light varies from a fire-like burst of color to white flashes and a few occasions of blue. Otherwise, the entity has remained static, seeming to “hover” over 40 stories above Hudson River Drive. But to any that are within view of this flying object, it is clearly not just another weather balloon.
“It’s insane. I mean, I’ve never seen anything like it,” says a tearing 40 yr old Roberto Martinez who owns a corner store in the area. “But it’s also kind of scary. It’s crazy.”
Mr Martinez’s excitement is shared by many simply because this might actually be the first public siting of a UFO in world history. However, it must be clarified that the definition of UFO refers to an “unidentified flying object” and does not necessitate “alien” involvment, as some are suggesting. Rather, a UFO is simply unidentified and therefore could be caused by weather, human design, government technology, or simply bizarre cloud formation.

Police stationed around the neighborhood
But perhaps more disconcerting has been the government and major news source’s reaction to the phenomena, that being one of complete silence. Many major New York newspapers, including The NY Times and Daily News, have failed to even mention the story, thus isolating most of the reporting to minor neighborhood papers, like our own The New York View, or online bloggers who are witnessing the event firsthand. Furthermore, the only government response has been a set up of police barriers around the outside of the city neighborhood and the NYPD’s official statement has been limited to: “The incident in question is being investigated and is out of NYPD jurisdiction,” says Chief of Department Joseph J. Esposito. “We are awaiting further developments before taking any sort of action.”
Meanwhile, neighborhood residents continue to gather outside their homes and businesses to watch the object, videotaping or photographing what they can see through the cloudy skies.
More developments as they come in…
