(NNC) - According to a new study conducted by best-selling published author Tristan Poundstone, African Americans have “failed to evolve” as thoroughly as other minorities in the country.

Mr. Poundstone, in his paper titled “Failure to Follow Suit,” claims that black America’s failure to evolve has resulted in underrepresentation amongst the middle-class and within university institutions.

“As the Jews and Italian minorities became integrated into middle-class society,” said Mr. Poundstone at a recent lecture, “African Americans remained behind the curve. On the outset, there is no biological difference between races besides for the color of their skin. Therefore, we must conclude that there is a ‘black gene’ that has been holding the African American community back.”

When questioned about the black people’s history of enslavement, segregation and discrimination, Poundstone responded “If we’re going to be discussing myth and speculation, than why not discuss the splitting of the red sea or sightings of the Virgin Mary?”

According to Poundstone, even if African American’s have struggled with discrimination, if one harkens to the “laws of evolution,” black communities should have evolved within the 40 years since segregation ended.

Poundstone elaborates by arguing, “Even if your mother attended school in a miserable shack and drank water from fountains stained with urine, Sir MLK Jr. saved the day. Immediately after Sir Martin Luther King Jr. came along, the genes in the black adult should have changed to produce truly free offspring able to live in their new society.”

He pauses before continuing, “But they didn’t!”

To illustrate, Mr. Poundstone uses the example of a man being pummelled repeatedly by a baseball bat. “You can break the man’s legs several times, but they will heal. Similarly, the black community may have encountered a few ‘brush-ups’ with American society that left them crippled and helpless, but we stopped that years ago! So walk damnit!”

But despite some convincing arguments, Poundstone’s book has come under fire for belittling the pain sufferred on behalf of black people throughout America’s history, such as the more modern failure to include people of color in the GI Bill after WWII.

Poundstone now writes from his new home in the Santa Monica Health Center and was awarded with the Golden Page’s Best New Author award in 1998, shortly before being mugged and disappearing from the public view in January 1999.

“Do the research, people,” Poundstone said to a class at Boston University earlier this year. “And history will speak for itself.”
