Apple skips 6th gen iPod, goes straight for 7th gen…

(TCN) - In an effort to “wow” technology users around the world, Apple Inc has announced that it will effectively skip the 6th generation iPod and “go straight for the 7th,” according to Natalie Kerris, a top spokesman at the company.

“6th generation is too ‘next-gen’,” said Ms. Kerris at a press conference earlier today. “We’re going for next-next gen! If that means skipping a generation than that’s what we’ll do!”

Though some industry analysts urge consumers not to look too deeply into the announcement, labeling it as a “cheap gimmick,” others aren’t as quick to dismiss the tactic.

“What they are doing has never been done before,” began Michael Summit from TekKrunch.  “They are effectively skipping a generation in tehcnological design. Whereas everybody else will be stuck in their own ‘next-gen’, Apple has made the decision to ignore the ‘next-gen’ and go with ‘next-next’ gen. It’s simply brilliant.”

When questioned about the method Apple will use to accomplish leap-frogging a generation of technology, Ms. Kerris simply said “You doubt the power of the consumer,” before winking and giving a thumbs up.

The 7th gen iPod is due out this Christmas.
