Al-Qaeda tries to claim responsibility for Peru earthquake…

(DDC) - Despite the overwhelming evidence that suggests the earthquake in Peru was due entirely to natural causes, Al-Qaeda has released a statement that stretches the boundaries of reality in order to claim responsibility for the 7.9 grade earthquake, labeling it as a “targetted attack on the nation of Peru.”

“Ignore the evidence your so-called ‘professors of science’ are presenting - we are solely responsible for the earthquke that has claimed the lives of so many Peruvians,” an anonymous Al-Qaeda spokesman said in a video released earlier today.

The video was sent to several major news sources but the credibility of the claim, according to US officials, is ludicrous.

“It goes to show the desperation of the terrorists when they begin to take responsibility for natural disasters,” said Robert Freeman of the Department of Defense. “It’s almost silly.”

According to Mr. Freeman, this isn’t the first time that various terrorist groups have tried to claim responsibility for a natural disaster. In 2005, Hamas claimed responsibility for “unleashing” Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans.

“This isn’t a new tactic but it’s a bad tactic,” Mr Freeman continued. “They just come off as looking like idiots.”

At least 115 people have died in the earthquake, according to Peruvian officials.
