(GNC) - Controversial internet journalist Matt Drudge was hospitalized after attempting suicide, The NATIONAL ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

The ENQUIRER broke the story yesterday of Drudge’s tragic cry for help. The journalist had apparently been suffering from extreme guilt and self-hatred, which eventually led to depression and his attempted suicide. He was transported to St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. on Monday, August 27, by ambulance.

The ENQUIRER has learned new details about the shocking suicide attempt. Drudge cut both wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills.

He was discovered by a family member who summoned help. His situation was dire when he was discovered.

Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Matt’s house around noon on Monday.

Matt Drudge was brought to the hospital Monday morning

Drudge was brought in to St. John’s in very serious condition. Police were on the scene at his house and at the hospital. He was treated and stabilized at St. John’s and then transferred by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai medical center. His friends Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage expressed their deepest condolences.

Matt Drudge has released a statement saying, “I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.”

However, staffers at the Drudge Report have neglected this statement and published gossip columns surrounding the drama anyway.
