Authorities thwart terrorist plot to “bomb” movies in US theatres…

New York, NY (CNC) - Just as the summer movie season kicks off with such blockbuster megahits as Spider-Man 3 and the new Pirates of the Caribbean, authorities have uncovered a terrorist plan that aimed to thwart the success of American movies by making them “bomb” in the box office, thus upsetting the economy and our morale.

The plot is just one of many recent attempts by radical Islamic terrorists that attempts to disrupt Western society and change the way we live our lives. But authorities were still surprised by the creativity of this particular plan, which relied on manipulation rather than explosives or violence.

“Their basic idea was to obtain copies of major Hollywood films headed for theatres and to secretly edit the movies to butcher the plot, pacing and quality of the movie,” said Michael Sterling, who led the FBI’s investigation into the matter. “If that failed, their ‘plan B’ was to surreptitiously sneak into theatres and actually violate the film reel. While nobody would have died from this plot, it could have been devastating in other ways.”

The most likely result of this particular terrorist plot would be a large blow to the film industry as summer blockbusters combined gross several billion dollars. If Americans were to lose faith in movies, it could have cost Hollywood several hundred million dollars.

But that doesn’t mean Hollywood is in the clear. Because of the subtle nature of the plan, authorities still haven’t ascertained just how far along the terrorists were in their planning and whether or not they have already carried out some of the attacks.

“We are still trying to assess the damage but it’s difficult to retrace their steps,” Sterling said. “However, I will admit that at the moment we do believe Spider-Man 3 was targeted in the attack as this would explain why the movie was a failure on so many levels.”

The plot may have also involved Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Pirates of the Caribbean.
